Berg+Schmidt Changes Plant-Based Emulsifier for Luxurious Skin Sensation

Specialchem 2023-10-17

Berg+Schmidt is unveiling their latest addition to their range of fiber-based emulsifiers, BergaMuls ET2, which promises to enhance the sensorial qualities of various nourishing formulations. This product, sourced from upcycled dietary fibers derived from gum or cellulose, boasts components from oat, wood, and guar gum. It supports emulsion stability and viscosity due to its water-soluble and water-insoluble elements.

BergaMuls ET2, joining the decade-long legacy of fiber-based emulsifiers that began with BergaMuls ET1, brings unique properties to the table. Both products, available in powdered form, elevate the sensory experience of multiple formulations and offer the advantage of sustainable sourcing from drought-resistant materials.

BergaMuls ET2 employs a dual-action approach, functioning as an oil-in-water emulsifier and stabilizer. Unlike traditional natural cosmetic emulsifiers, it avoids esterification and soaping effects, thanks to its cold-processible nature. Typically used at concentrations between 1-3%, BergaMuls ET2 allows for a range of product formulations, from lightweight and translucent cream-gels to soothing lotions and compact creams, all while linearly increasing the viscosity with the oil phase size.

These BergaMuls products are gentle on the skin barrier, making them suitable for emulsifier-free concepts.

Kristin Köhler, division manager Cosmetics at Berg+Schmidt, emphasizes their commitment to eco-responsible choices, stating, "With consumers becoming more and more aware of what is contained in their cosmetic products, we can help users and manufacturers alike make an eco-responsible choice for a highly effective end product. The new BergaMuls ET2 upcycled from food by-products meets a zero waste policy, circularity and sustainable approaches. In addition, it is a water-free, vegan raw material and therefore ideal for tomorrow's eco-conscious cosmetic formulations."

BergaMuls ET2 will debut at the SEPAWA Congress 2023 in Berlin, from 25 to 27 October, at stand C140. Experts from the company will be on hand to discuss processing options for various personal care applications, showcasing the ability to customize ingredients to meet individual needs, delivering innovative, environmentally friendly, safe, and functional solutions.
