SKGC High-End New Materials Project Settled in Zhejiang, China
Recently, Zaijiu Li, China Business Development Director of SK Geocentric ("SKGC"), a subsidiary of South Korea's SK Group, and Huigang Chen, deputy secretary of the Party Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee of Pinghu Economic and Technological Development Zone, Zhejiang Province, discussed the SKGC high-end new materials project (Ionomer) settled in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province and signed an investment agreement.
The high-end new material Ionomer (ionic polymer) project is a wholly-owned project of South Korea's SKGC in China. It plans to build two fully automatic production lines with a total investment of approximately 500 million yuan and an area of approximately 19 acres. It is planned to be put into production in 2026. The production capacity can reach 12,000 tons/year.
As a high value-added product in the ethylene and propylene industry chain, Ionomer is also a downstream product of the EAA project that SKGC settled in Lianyungang Petrochemical Park in China last year. Only a few companies in the world have its production technology and external sales capabilities.
Ionomer products have a wide range of applications. Its high transparency and high melt strength are used in the field of skin-fitting packaging of cold fresh meat such as high-end steaks. It not only improves the shelf life of meat, but also clearly presents the quality of the meat to consumers.
Secondly, this product is also the main raw material of golf balls and is used to make the cover and mantle of golf balls. Golf balls made with Ionomer are wear-resistant and impact-resistant. In the field of construction, this material is mostly used in glass curtain walls and glass planks of high-rise buildings. As an intermediate film for multi-layer laminated glass, it can significantly improve the impact resistance and durability of the glass. In addition, this material is also widely used in high-end perfume bottle caps, oil seasoning packaging and other fields.
