Ivory Coast Cocoa Prices Surge from 1000 CFA Francs to 1500 CFA Francs per Kilogram
In recent news, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Food Production of Ivory Coast announced a significant increase in cocoa purchase prices. The prices have surged from 1000 CFA Francs to 1500 CFA Francs per kilogram. This development has caught the attention of the cocoa industry and is set to have a substantial impact on the global cocoa market.
Ivory Coast, located in West Africa, is the world's largest producer of cocoa beans, accounting for a significant portion of global cocoa production. The recent announcement by the Ministry of Agriculture has brought significant attention to the country's cocoa industry.
According to the Minister, Kouabenan-Kouassi Adjoumani, the decision to raise the purchase prices is aimed at providing better support to cocoa farmers and ensuring the sustainability of the cocoa sector. The new price of 1500 CFA Francs per kilogram represents a 50% increase from the previous price, which was set at 1000 CFA Francs per kilogram.
The decision to increase cocoa prices is based on the results of sales during the cocoa harvest season from April to September 2024. The average cost, known as the Cost, Insurance, and Freight (CIF) price, stood at 2326 CFA Francs per kilogram. Taking this into account, the Ivorian government has decided to set the purchase price at 64% of the CIF price, which amounts to 1500 CFA Francs per kilogram.
Minister Adjoumani emphasized that this price hike is unprecedented in the history of the Ivorian cocoa industry, marking the first time that prices during the intermediate season have surpassed those of the main season. This increase is expected to provide much-needed support to cocoa farmers, who play a vital role in the country's economy.
The rise in cocoa prices in Ivory Coast will likely have a significant impact on the global cocoa market. As the world's leading producer, any changes in prices or production levels in Ivory Coast can influence the overall supply and pricing dynamics in the cocoa industry. The increase in prices may also affect chocolate manufacturers and traders who rely heavily on Ivorian cocoa beans.
The decision to raise cocoa purchase prices in Ivory Coast from 1000 CFA Francs to 1500 CFA Francs per kilogram is a significant development for the country's cocoa industry. It aims to provide better support to cocoa farmers and ensure the sustainability of the sector. The increase in prices is expected to have a notable impact on the global cocoa market, affecting both producers and consumers in the chocolate industry.
