BASF supplies RCS polyamide to textile industry

ECHEMI 2024-04-25

Ultramid Ccycled, BASF’s sustainable polyamide PA6 and PA6.6 product range, is now certified by the Recycling Statement Standard (RCS) for textile applications. The label enables manufacturers to sell certified textiles produced using recycled raw materials.

The production of Ultramid Ccycled is based on the chemical recycling of difficult-to-recycle plastic waste, such as scrap tires. With ChemCycling, recycled raw materials are fed into the BASF production network from the beginning and distributed to Ultramid Ccycled products using a mass balance method.

BASF’s Ccycled product portfolio is ISCC PLUS and REDcert2 certified. To promote the acceptance and promotion of chemical recycling in the textile industry, BASF has been committed to complying with the Textile Exchange standards since 2020.
As one of the leading non-profit organizations in the certification of recycled raw materials for the textile industry, Textile Exchange has established the RCS certification process.

“We are proud to offer Ultramid Ccycled with this certification to the textile industry, further expanding our product portfolio,” said Dr. Dominik Winter, Head of Business Management Polyamides Europe at BASF.

BASF is expanding its broad portfolio of polyamides for sustainable solutions in the textile industry by offering RCS-certified PA6 and PA6.6 recycled products. In the “choose to reduce” approach, customers can choose products that save fossil raw materials by using recycled materials in their production processes, thus reducing their carbon footprint. The quality and performance of the product remains unchanged.

BASF is presenting its circular product portfolio for the textile industry to customers and partners at Techtextil, the international trade fair for technical textiles and nonwovens at Messe Frankfurt from April 23 to 26, 2024.
