Revised EU Regulations on Maximum Residue Levels for Six Pesticides

On May 22, 2024, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2024/1355, revising the maximum residue levels (MRLs) for six pesticides - benzovindiflupyr, chlorantraniliprole, emamectin, quinclorac, spiromesifen, and triflumuron - in certain food products.

The key updates are as follows:

1. A new entry was added for triflumuron.
2. The entries for benzovindiflupyr, chlorantraniliprole, and emamectin were replaced.
3. The entries for quinclorac and spiromesifen were replaced.
4. The entry for triflumuron was deleted.

The revised MRLs apply to food commodities such as citrus fruits, tree nuts, pome fruits, onions, and sorghum. This regulation aims to ensure food safety by setting appropriate limits for pesticide residues, in line with the EU's commitment to protecting consumer health and the environment.

The new regulation will enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Food producers, importers, and traders should review their practices to ensure compliance with the updated MRLs, which will impact the marketability of certain agricultural products within the EU.
