Korean Food Regulatory Authority Issues Notice on Recalling Grain Products without Allergen Labeling

On June 13, 2024, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of Korea officially announced that two grain-based processed products produced by a Korean food company had incomplete label information, as they did not clearly indicate the presence of ingredients such as soybeans, wheat, and peanuts that may cause allergic reactions.

In response to this issue, the MFDS has ordered the company to immediately stop selling the products and conduct a comprehensive recall of the affected items.

According to the announcement, the two recalled products actually contained allergenic ingredients such as soybeans, wheat, and peanuts, but this important information was not displayed on the product labels. As a result, the MFDS has required the production company to take swift action, stop sales, and fully recall all products that did not label the allergenic ingredients. The MFDS also emphasized that the production company needs to strengthen its management and inspection of product labels to ensure that all ingredients that may cause allergic reactions are accurately and clearly labeled on future products, in order to protect the right of consumers to be informed and make choices.
