ECHEMI 2024-07-03

On June 24, 2024, based on information published in the Official Journal of the European Union, the European Commission officially adopted Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/1748 on June 21, 2024, amending the previously published Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1378. The main focus of this amendment is to recognize the authority of certain certification bodies in third countries to control and issue organic certificates for organic products imported into the EU, in accordance with Article 46 of Regulation (EU) 2018/848 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The key updates include:

(1) Annex II of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/1378 has been updated, with the relevant content in the third paragraph of Annex II replaced by the revised relevant code numbers, third countries, and product categories, including the codes CN-BIO-161 and CN-BIO-102 for the relevant Chinese authorities.

(2) The regulation will enter into force on the third day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union and will serve as a legally binding document, directly applicable to all EU Member States.
