Sumitomo Chemical's products have received ISCC PLUS certification
Sumitomo Chemical has received the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) for its products at its Chiba plant in Japan. ISCC PLUS is a global certification system that aims to ensure that sustainable raw materials, including recycled and biomass materials, are effectively managed throughout the supply chain and manufacturing process. The certification enables Sumitomo Chemical to integrate certified sustainable materials into its products using a mass balance approach while maintaining transparency and traceability of its production and supply chain.
Sumitomo Chemical's recently ISCC PLUS-certified products are processed and produced at its Chiba plant, including a range of polyethylene and polypropylene products. The certified polyethylene products are SUMIKATHENE™, SUMIKATHENE™-L, SUMIKATHENE™ α, SUMIKATAHENE™ Hi α, SUMICATHENE™ EP, EXCELLEN™, EXCELLER™ GMH, EXCELLEN™ FX, EXCELLLEN™ VL, GETABOND™ and ACRYFT™. The certified polypropylene products are SUMITOMONBLEN™ and EXCELLEN™. Propylene oxide is also included in the certification. The certification highlights Sumitomo Chemical’s commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing throughout the production process.
The Anesaki area of Sumitomo Chemical’s Chiba Plant has been certified as a trading and storage facility under the ISCC certification, enabling the company to manage all ISCC PLUS certified products, including ethylene, butadiene and benzene. To increase the visibility and recognition of these environmentally friendly products, Sumitomo Chemical is exploring the possibility of selling its ISCC PLUS certified products under the Meguri™ brand. This strategic move aims to emphasize the company’s commitment to sustainability and further establish the environmental credentials of its certified products.
Sumitomo Chemical has established environmental sustainability as a strategic priority. The company recognizes its role in promoting a sustainable future and is actively working to minimize its environmental footprint. A key component of this commitment is the expansion of ISCC PLUS certified products, which demonstrates the company’s commitment to transparent and responsible sourcing. By adding these certified products, Sumitomo Chemical aims to meet the market’s growing demand for sustainable solutions and contribute to the broader goal of a circular economy. Through strategic partnerships and continuous improvement, the company is driving positive environmental change and building a strong reputation as a sustainability leader within its industry.
