3 Major Food Regulations in Turkey: The Food Safety Revolution Behind Decree 585-587, Feedback by September 16th!

On August 12, 2024, the Turkish Food Safety and Control Authority officially issued Notice No. 585, No. 586, and No. 587, planning to draft three food regulations and setting the feedback period from September 16, 2024, to the same date. The specific regulation content is as follows:

 

(1) The main content of the "Food Hygiene Regulations" includes definitions and terms, basic principles, the responsibilities of food business operators (including the primary responsibility for food safety), guidelines for good operating practices, general requirements for food imports and exports, and final provisions. In addition, the annex provides detailed specifications on general hygiene requirements for food primary production and related operations, as well as general hygiene requirements that all food business operators must comply with.

 

(2) The "Regulations on Food Enterprise Registration and Approval Procedures" stipulate the scope of application of food production enterprise registration, the conditions to be met for application registration and the materials to be submitted, the official approval process, subsequent verification supervisory measures, changes and revocations of registered enterprises, etc.

 

(3) The main content of the "Special Hygiene Requirements for Animal-Origin Foods" includes general provisions, the registration and approval of animal-origin food production and processing enterprises, the management and use of health and inspection marks, management requirements for the import and export of animal-origin foods, and final provisions. The attached document specifies definitions and terms, establishment standards for different types of animal-derived food processing factories, hygiene procedures for slaughter, and key parameter requirements for processing animal-derived food.
