Turkey's New Regulation: Restrictions on Seasoning Use, Public Opinion Deadline Approaches!
On November 15, 2024, the General Directorate for Food Safety and Control of Turkey issued Circular No. 613 for the purpose of preparing regulations on seasonings or foods with seasonings characteristics. The circular sets a deadline of December 9, 2024 for public comments.
The main contents of the draft regulation cover the following aspects: Definition and definition of terms (clarify that the scope of the product includes spices and flavoured foods based on them, allow the addition of food additives, However, food additives with flavoring functions are excluded), the list of permissible flavorings and their use requirements, the specific requirements for product labeling (requiring labels to clearly indicate the name of the product in Turkish, the use of "edible", the conditions of storage and consumption, the batch number of the product, etc.), and the evaluation and approval process for new flavoring varieties.
