BASF Launches World’s First High-Quality Melamine Resin Foam for Sound Absorption Applications

ECHEMI 2025-02-08

BASF now launches Basotect EcoBalanced, the world’s first melamine foam, which helps reduce the carbon footprint of products for a variety of sound absorption applications in the transportation and construction industries.

Basotect EcoBalanced has a 50% lower carbon footprint than the corresponding standard grade from BASF and is manufactured in a resource-efficient process using 100% green electricity and renewable raw materials.

The renewable raw materials come from organic waste and residual biomass and are attributed to the Basotect grade using the mass balance method, which is certified by REDcert2 and ISCC PLUS. Thus, Basotect EcoBalanced not only helps reduce the use of fossil resources, BASF also helps customers reduce their carbon footprint to support them in evaluating their products and achieving their sustainability goals.

“Our Basotect EcoBalanced is the melamine resin foam with the lowest carbon footprint on the market,” said Tarek Abuzarour, Head of Global Business Management Basotect at BASF.

“This helps our customers take a decisive step towards net zero emissions. They can rely on the high quality of Basotect EcoBalanced while distinguishing their products from the competition with additional sustainability benefits and helping to reduce fossil resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.”

BASF is the first company to have transparent emissions data for melamine resin foam. This helps customers better measure and reduce the CO2 footprint of their products in transportation as well as in building construction.
