Xinjiang Zhongtai Launches 1 Million Ton Methanol Plant Green Energy Project Starts
Recently, Xinjiang Zhongtai (Group) Co., Ltd. celebrated two major milestones: the 1-million-ton methanol production project officially began operations, and the 1150 MW Tokkuzun green energy wind power project broke ground the same day. These developments mark significant progress in green chemical industry advancements.
The methanol project, located in Turpan’s Tokkuzun County, leverages coal classification and resource utilization to produce methanol using domestically developed technologies. Covering 1350 acres, this facility aims to enhance coal’s value chain and represents China’s first fully localized million-ton methanol production system. According to project leader Ma Kui, this serves as a demonstration for the complete localization of large-scale coal chemical installations.
The Tokkuzun wind power project boasts a capacity of 1.15 GW and is expected to save 700,000 tons of coal annually while reducing 1.93 million tons of CO₂ emissions. Liu Chao, the project lead, shared plans to develop a green energy hub, focusing on hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol production alongside wind, solar, and energy storage initiatives.
Chairman Wang Pingyang emphasized that these projects are key to building Xinjiang Zhongtai’s “2+2” modern industrial framework, combining green chemicals, ecological textiles, new materials, and renewable energy, driving synchronized industrial development.
