Kraton Shuts Down 2 Product Lines and 1 Plant to Refocus on Core Growth
On May 7, Kraton Corporation announced a major strategic shift, revealing plans to exit its production site in Dover, Ohio, and phase out its dimer acid and polyamide product lines. The move is part of a broader transformation aimed at enhancing the company’s long-term growth trajectory.
Kraton, a global leader in sustainable specialty polymers and bio-based materials, is known for deriving its products from pine-based pulp byproducts. This new decision reflects a sharpened commitment to core competencies that deliver maximum impact and value.
Minco van Breevoort, President of Kraton Pine Chemicals, emphasized the company’s new direction: “We are streamlining operations to strengthen investments in our pine chemicals innovation and key assets.” He confirmed that the company’s crude tall oil refining capacity will remain unaffected, ensuring continued supply of tall oil fatty acids to customers.
The company also acknowledged the implications of this closure and committed to a safe and respectful transition. Kraton praised the Dover team for their dedication to safety and operational excellence, promising that the well-being of employees and the local community will remain a top priority.
Operating across continents with a diverse portfolio of solutions, Kraton aims to leverage its global footprint and agility to meet shifting market demands. The company remains firmly focused on world-class service, operational excellence, and delivering value to its stakeholders.
