Clariant and FUHUA Establish Joint Venture to Co-Develop Halogen-Free Flame Retardants

On November 6, Clariant and FUHUA reached a strategic cooperation agreement to establish a joint venture focused on the research and development of innovative halogen-free flame retardants. The collaboration is pending routine approval from relevant regulatory authorities and aims to develop a new generation of phosphorus-based flame retardants for multiple industries, including construction, automotive, and electrical and electronic applications, in response to increasingly stringent technical standards and regulatory requirements.

The signing of this strategic joint venture agreement marks a deep collaboration between Clariant and FUHUA in the field of innovation and R&D. Both parties will leverage their respective strengths to jointly develop new halogen-free flame retardants, addressing increasingly strict regulatory requirements while maintaining or even enhancing product performance and creating sustainable value.

Against the backdrop of tightening global regulations on traditional flame retardant technologies, Clariant has proactively launched this new R&D initiative. This cooperation is an important part of Clariant’s series of investments in China. Previously, the company invested CHF 100 million to expand its Daya Bay plant and add a new production line for Exolit™ OP halogen-free flame retardants. This joint venture further strengthens Clariant’s strategic presence in the Chinese market. In addition, Clariant’s new Nylostab® S-EED® stabilizer production line in Cangzhou commenced operations on November 3, further enhancing the company’s capacity in this sector.
