Hempel Launches Hempaguard NB Revolutionary Fuel-Saving Solution for Newbuilds
Hempel has unveiled Hempaguard NB, a cutting-edge silicone antifouling coating specifically designed for newbuild vessels. For the first time, shipowners and shipyards can benefit from fuel-saving and fouling protection right from the construction phase, marking a milestone in antifouling technology.
Hempaguard NB integrates the proven performance of Hempaguard X7 with a silicone topcoat tailored for newbuild conditions. This innovative solution offers up to 20% fuel savings, with an average speed loss of only 1.2%, and ensures 120 idle days without fouling. Unlike traditional silicone coatings requiring post-construction application, Hempaguard NB eliminates the need for drydocking before or after vessel delivery, saving time and costs.
Alexander Enström, EVP of Hempel’s Marine Division, emphasized, “Hempaguard NB redefines silicone antifouling application for newbuilds. It is a technological breakthrough, enabling immediate and long-term performance benefits while reducing emissions.”
Hempaguard NB builds on Hempaguard X7’s 5,000 successful applications, independently verified for its fuel efficiency and carbon reduction. As part of Hempel’s Integrated Hull Management solutions, this product enhances operational efficiency and regulatory compliance, offering shipbuilders a competitive edge.
