Canada Opens Public Consultation on Potassium Bicarbonate Reevaluation Until September 8

ECHEMI 2025-06-16

On June 10, 2025, Health Canada released consultation document PRVD2025-06, initiating a reevaluation of potassium bicarbonate and its end-use products by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA).

Potassium bicarbonate is widely registered for controlling powdery mildew on greenhouse and field crops, including ornamentals, vegetables, fruits, herbs, and spices. It is also approved for managing gray mold on grapes and partially mitigating apple scab in orchards. Additionally, it is used on cannabis and industrial hemp, both in greenhouse settings and open fields.

The public consultation period runs from June 10, 2025, to September 8, 2025, allowing stakeholders to submit feedback on the pesticide’s usage and safety.
