Transfar Group Signs Strategic Agreement with PETRONAS Exploring Global Production Opportunities
On June 14, Transfar Group and its subsidiaries, Transfar Zhilian and Zhejiang Xinan Chemical Industrial Group (Xinan Co.), signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with PETRONAS, the Malaysian national energy giant, at its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
Under the agreement, the parties will explore potential collaboration to establish joint production facilities in China and Pengerang, Malaysia, focusing on the production and sale of polybutadiene rubber to serve Southeast Asia and global markets. Additionally, they aim to co-develop facilities for producing and marketing specialized downstream silicone products and solutions targeting global demand, particularly in China and Southeast Asia.
During the signing ceremony, Transfar Group Chairman Xu Guanju remarked, “As a leading energy company in Asia, PETRONAS has full-chain competitiveness from upstream oil and gas development to downstream petrochemical products. This partnership not only solidifies our strategic relationship but also lays a strong foundation for advancing integrated energy and chemical development, enhancing supply chain collaboration, and promoting green growth.”
Transfar Zhilian’s subsidiary, Transfar Synthetic Materials, stands as a leader in new materials. Since its establishment in 2011, the company has specialized in the development, production, and sale of synthetic materials like polybutadiene rubber. It operates the world’s largest polybutadiene monomer facility with an annual production capacity of 270,000 tons. Its nickel-based/neodymium-based continuous polymerization technology is recognized as a domestic first and has secured 30 global patents, including in Europe. Transfar Synthetic has also broken foreign technical monopolies, with its products sold in over 30 countries and widely used by the top 25 global tire manufacturers, maintaining a strong international reputation and market share.
Xinan Co., an industry leader in silicone materials, is one of the few companies worldwide capable of producing a full range of downstream silicone products, including silicone rubber, silicone oil, silicone resin, and silane coupling agents. With over 3,000 types of terminal products, Xinan Co. has rapidly expanded its presence in the silicone market. Leveraging its technological expertise and production capacity, Xinan Co. will focus on collaborating with PETRONAS in downstream silicone specialties. By combining both companies’ strengths in production, innovation, resources, and channels, the partnership will aim to advance resource sharing, channel integration, and expand market reach across Southeast Asia and globally.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward strengthening international partnerships and creating innovative solutions to meet the growing demand for high-performance materials in global markets.
