Qatar Launches 350,000-Ton PVC Plant in September Europe Braces for More Imports Amid Market Turmoil

ECHEMI 2025-07-17

Qatar Vinyl Company is set to start up the country’s first PVC plant in Mesaieed this September, with a design capacity of 350,000 tons per year. Announced in April 2022 and approved in October the same year, the project signals a major milestone for Qatar’s chemicals industry.

With current output including 370,000 tons of caustic soda and 355,000 tons of vinyl chloride monomer annually, Qatar Vinyl’s new PVC facility will far exceed domestic demand. Industry insiders expect Europe—already grappling with a supply glut and weak demand—to become the main export destination for Qatari PVC.

Europe’s PVC market remains under intense pressure: oversupply, sluggish consumption, and fierce price competition from Asian imports have forced producers like Vynova and Dow to announce plant closures. Despite these measures, traders believe further restructuring is needed before the EMEA PVC market can stabilize.
