This week, the overall market trend of maleic anhydride in China slightly declined
September 28, News
According to the commodity analysis system, this week, the maleic anhydride market in China has slightly declined. As of September 28, the average market price for maleic anhydride produced by n-butane oxidation method remained at 5487.50 CNY/ton, a decrease of 2.44% from 5625.00 CNY/ton on September 22.[1]
On the supply side: This week, the maleic anhydride market generally declined as manufacturers cleared their inventories ahead of the holiday season, providing limited support for prices. Meanwhile, downstream unsaturated resins showed limited demand for maleic anhydride, resulting in subdued purchasing activity and weak restocking sentiment. As of September 28, the solid maleic anhydride factory price in Shandong region hovered around 5,100 CNY per ton, while the liquid form remained at approximately 4,700 CNY per ton.
Upstream: This week, the overall n-butane market showed a slight increase, with prices in Shandong around 4560 CNY/ton as of September 28.[1][2]
Downstream sector: Currently, the market for unsaturated resins remains weak, with most producers planning short-term shutdowns or reduced production capacity during the National Day holiday. Downstream transactions are sluggish, providing limited support to the unsaturated resin market, which continues to face weak demand.
The maleic anhydride product analyst notes that most of the major downstream unsaturated resin plants are currently planning production cuts or shutdowns, limiting their purchasing activity for maleic anhydride. At present, manufacturers are primarily focused on clearing existing inventories, suggesting that the maleic anhydride market is likely to remain relatively stable at lower levels in the near term.
