October Isopropyl Alcohol Market Price Rises First, Then Falls

ECHEMI 2025-10-30

October 29th, news

I. Price Trends

According to the commodity market analysis system, the isopropanol prices in October first increased and then decreased, with a slight overall increase. On October 1, the average price of isopropanol in China was 5,633.33 CNY per ton, and on October 29, it was 5,675 CNY per ton, representing a 0.74% increase compared to the beginning of the month.

In October, the market price of isopropyl alcohol initially rose before declining. During the first half of the month, supply shortages emerged as major producers in Shandong temporarily halted operations, leading to limited willingness among suppliers to lower their prices—instead, many opted to hold onto their inventory, resulting in a noticeable reluctance to sell. This cautious stance pushed market prices upward.

By mid-month, acetone prices began to drop, further weakening cost-based support for isopropyl alcohol. As a result, market confidence remained unstable, leaving prices largely stuck in a tight range with minor fluctuations dominating trading activity.

Towards the end of the month, trading conditions in the market became even quieter, with downstream buyers showing weaker purchasing interest. Consequently, intermediaries adjusted their pricing strategies accordingly, causing the market to drift slightly downward over a narrow range.

As of now, most quotes for isopropyl alcohol in the Shandong region hover around 5,550–5,650 CNY per ton, while in Jiangsu, prices are generally around 5,600 CNY per ton.

In terms of acetone raw materials, the Chinese acetone market experienced volatile declines in October. On October 1, the average price of acetone was 4,410 CNY per ton, dropping to 4,180 CNY per ton by October 29—a price reduction of 5.22%. Currently, market sentiment has turned more cautious, putting downward pressure on sellers' confidence as traders remain hesitant, leading to fluctuating and declining price offers.

In terms of propylene raw materials, the Chinese propylene market declined in October. On October 1, the average market price stood at 6,543.25 CNY per ton, but by October 29, the average had dropped to 6,113.25 CNY per ton—a decrease of 6.57%. Currently, the market anticipates an increase in supply, while downstream buyers are opting for lower prices based on their immediate needs. As a result, the market is expected to remain volatile, with sideways trading dominating the outlook.

III. Market Forecast

Chemical sector isopropanol analysts believe: In October, the isopropanol market prices first increased then decreased, with a slight overall increase. Currently, the trading atmosphere in the isopropanol market in China is stable and mild, with both buyers and sellers mostly observing. It is expected that in the short term, the isopropanol market in China will remain relatively stable, with limited fluctuation range, and more attention should be paid to the trend of the raw material market.
