When Global Buyers No Longer Visit Trade Shows but “Select Suppliers with a Click”
In recent years, cross-border chemical supply chains have rapidly digitalized. To help global buyers efficiently find ideal suppliers in a complex market, the ECHEMI platform has hosted the Global Buyer Match Event for several consecutive years. Today, this event has evolved into a mature online format. The event is conducted entirely online and is unrelated to any offline trade show—this was especially evident in today’s (November 6) sessions. Buyers do not need to travel to attend, and suppliers do not need to set up booths; all one-on-one precise matching can be completed via the platform, greatly improving procurement efficiency.

This meeting is the last matching event of the year. Buyers from South Asia, the Middle East, Australia, Thailand, Africa, and other regions submitted detailed chemical or pharmaceutical raw material lists and participated in online discussions. Through the platform’s process of “pre-published demand → intelligent supplier screening → online meetings,” both buyers and suppliers are matched accurately, laying the foundation for future cooperation.
For example, a company from South Asia listed demands including menthol, camphor, ammonium ferric citrate, potassium nitrate, aspirin, and para-phenylenediamine, and engaged in in-depth discussions with multiple Chinese suppliers through the platform. An Australian animal health company focused on veterinary drug raw materials such as omeprazole, dexmedetomidine hydrochloride, and molnupiravir tartrate, exploring long-term stable supply and compliance documentation support. Thai buyers targeted peptides such as tirzepatide and retatrutide, showing growing demand for high-end biopharmaceutical raw materials in the country.
Procurement from Middle Eastern and African markets was also very active. Buyers from Kuwait requested hydroxyethyl cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, epoxy resins, titanium dioxide, and polydimethylsiloxane, reflecting broad local demand for coatings, plastics, and construction chemicals. Buyers from Zambia requested hydrofluoric acid, potassium iodide, tungsten, and ultra-pure acids, indicating rising dependence on high-purity chemicals in mining and metallurgy. Indian companies focused on minerals and inorganic products such as limestone, dolomite, and wollastonite, while Egyptian buyers concentrated on pharmaceutical raw materials like carbimazole and linezolid.

The biggest advantage of this online matching is precise demand and high cooperation efficiency. Suppliers can prepare in advance according to the buyer’s country, product type, and quality standards, while buyers can review each supplier’s qualifications, product catalog, and service capabilities through the platform, quickly identifying suitable partners. This model eliminates the time costs and randomness of traditional trade shows, making cooperation more targeted.
From an industry perspective, this online matching model reflects several trends in chemical and pharmaceutical supply chains:
1.Demand segmentation and specialization: From metal extractants to peptides to construction resins, buyers from various countries provide clear specifications, purity, and certification requirements, demonstrating a shift toward refined global procurement.
2.Supply chain digitalization and transparency: The platform leverages long-term buyer profiles and supplier data to enable intelligent matching, making supply chain information transparent and communication efficient. One participant noted that previously, multiple trade show visits or phone calls were needed to screen suitable suppliers, whereas now a few rounds of online meetings can determine the next steps.
3.Multi-region simultaneous engagement: From South Asian pharmaceutical raw materials to Middle Eastern coatings, from Thai biopharmaceuticals to African mining chemicals, this event covers wide geographies and industries, showcasing Chinese suppliers’ adaptability across multiple fields.

After today’s meeting, platform data shows that multiple buyer-supplier pairs have already expressed intentions to send samples and enter subsequent technical negotiations. Tomorrow (November 7) will see no new meetings, marking the conclusion of this year’s annual matching event.
Looking ahead, ECHEMI will continue to optimize its online matching processes, enhance supply chain data analysis, and deepen service capabilities, making “buyers bring their lists, suppliers bring their solutions” the new normal in foreign trade. For industry professionals, such matching events are fundamentally transforming the traditional “wide-net” trade approach, helping companies find partners faster and more accurately in the global procurement market and gain a first-mover advantage.
