All oil and electricity are lacking! Under the energy crisis, price hikes spread to the field of new chemical materials

ECHEMI 2021-10-19

A rare energy crisis has swept the world.

In the UK, many gas stations cut off fuel, and there is a long line of cars hoping to refuel. Due to the soaring natural gas price, the price of electricity in the UK has soared, setting a record high since 1990.

There is also an energy crisis in the European continent. Not long ago, Spain, France, the Czech Republic, Greece and Romania issued a joint statement on energy prices. Urge the European Union to investigate the natural gas market and call on European countries to adopt a common approach to cope with energy shortages.

According to data from the Central Electricity Authority of India, as of September 29, 16 of the 135 coal-fired power plants in India had zero coal inventory, and more than half of the power plants had less than three days of inventory.

In Brazil, due to the continuous dry weather, the shortage of hydropower, which accounts for the largest market share in the country, has caused a huge power gap in Brazil...

At the same time, the prices of oil, natural gas, and coal in the international market have risen sharply. On October 13, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that as global demand for oil continues to soar and supply continues to be tight, oil prices may reach US$100 per barrel. This is another step after Goldman Sachs and Citigroup have called for a target price of US$90 for the year. A shocking number!

The energy crisis has a profound impact on industries such as industrial and manufacturing industries, and the chemical industry is the first to be affected, because petroleum is not only a bulk raw material at the source of the chemical industry chain, but also one of the key factors affecting ocean freight.

At present, the chemical industry is facing the double blow of soaring oil prices and soaring freight. Upstream raw materials are frequently out of stock, limited sales, and high prepayments and even full cash delivery are required while queuing. These have brought multiple pressures to chemical companies. In order to make a profit or at least not to lose money, and to keep the company's capital chain, domestic and foreign chemical companies have sent letters to increase prices. Under this circumstance, the wave of price increases under the energy crisis has also spread. To the field of new chemical materials.

1. Celanese

On October 12, Celanese, a global chemical and specialty materials company, announced a global surcharge on Amcel®, Celcon®, Hostaform® and other polyoxymethylene (POM) products in response to the recent surge in global energy prices.

Beginning in the summer of last year, the global energy market has experienced unprecedented instability. Recently, the situation has intensified, and we have to share the burden of the sharp rise in prices with our customers. Although we believe that this situation will continue throughout the winter, Celanese will continue to monitor the situation on a regular basis and adjust the amount of the surcharge in a timely manner based on the current situation. We understand that this will have an impact on our important customers, and we also hope that everything will return to normal as soon as possible. "

2. BASF

On October 11, BASF Southeast Asia Co., Ltd. announced that due to the sharp increase in the cost of special additives and flame retardants, from October 11, 2021, the Asia-Pacific region will increase Ultramid® flame-retardant PA and Ultradur® flame-retardant PBT per ton With an increase of $500, some materials of certain grades may increase in price even higher.

3. DSM

On October 8, DSM announced that due to continuing global challenges and increased costs throughout the supply chain. The prices of Akulon®&Novamide®(PA6&PA66), ForTil®(PA4T PPA) and EcoPaXX®(PA410) in the Asia-Pacific region will be increased by 0.58 U.S. dollars, 0.58 U.S. dollars and 0.99 U.S. dollars per kilogram respectively. The price adjustment will take effect on October 15, 2021, and will be carried out in addition to the previously announced price increase.

On the same day, DSM China announced that starting from October 15, 2021, the price of special engineering plastics Xytron™ PPS in Greater China will be increased by RMB 4.5 per kilogram as permitted by the contract and previous agreements.

4. DuPont

On September 1, DuPont announced to increase the prices of some products in the Asia-Pacific region from October 1. The products involved include long-carbon chain nylon, special high-temperature nylon, alcohol-soluble nylon, thermoplastic elastomers and other products, with a maximum increase of 5800 yuan/ Ton.

5. LANXESS

LANXESS announced on September 22 that starting from October 1st, it will increase the price of PA66, PA6, PBT and other products, up to a maximum of 6,000 CNY/ton.

6. Rohm Chemistry

On September 15th, ROHM Chemical announced that from October 1st, it will increase the price of its PLEXIGLAS® and PLEXIMID®PMMA (polymethyl methyl acrylic resin) by 0.08 Euro/kg (approximately 606.5 CNY/ton) in Europe.

It was announced on October 8 that the price of MERACRYLMMA (methyl methacrylate) and other methacrylate monomer products in Europe would be raised immediately, with a maximum increase of 970 CNY/ton.

7. DOMO Chemical

DOMO Chemicals announced that starting from October 1st, it will increase the price of PA6/PA66 and its raw materials, with a maximum increase of about 1,000-2800 CNY/ton.

8. Ube Maruzen

Maruzen Ube announced that starting from October 1, the prices of EVA resins and EEA resins will be increased. Among them, the price of EVA resin will be increased by 20 yen/kg (about 1176 CNY/ton), and the price of EEA resin will be increased by 40 yen/kg (about 2352 yuan). /Ton).

9. Kuraray

Kuraray announced that starting from October 1st, it will increase the prices of all grades of SEPTON™, HYBRAR™ hydrogenated styrene elastomers and TU polymers globally by 0.44 USD/lb (approximately 3142 CNY/ton).

The epidemic is still spreading, natural gas, oil, coal and other primary energy sources continue to be in emergency, ocean freight and freight rates continue to soar, and domestic "double restrictions" control is becoming stricter. According to incomplete statistics, hundreds of chemical companies have increased their product prices, and some companies have continued to increase prices in the near future. The rise in the price of upstream raw materials will inevitably transmit pressure to the downstream. This price-rising wind does not know when or where it will blow. I hope everyone can survive this winter safely.
