Danish Review Lays Out Tattoo Ink Analysis Method

The Danish Ministry of Environment and Food has released a report describing how to develop a robust method for analysing azo pigments and primary aromatic amines (PAA) used in tattoo inks.
Coming up with such a method has proved particularly difficult. For example, in its work, the Danish EPA has found the same batch of ink giving different results when two labs have performed chemical analysis.
Denmark has long had concerns about the carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) properties of substances used in tattoo pigments.
Late last year, it began working with Echa, Germany, Italy and Norway on an EU regulation tackling harmful tattoo ink substances.
