Sinochem-Shanghai Institute of Chemical Industry Joint Laboratory of Composite

Sinochem International and Shanghai Chemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the Shanghai Chemical Academy) jointly established the "Sinochem-Shanghai Chemical Academy Composite Materials Joint Laboratory", recently unveiled in the Sinochem International Science Creation Center located in Shanghai Zhangjiang High-tech Park. It is reported that the two sides will take this as a platform to cooperate fully in the research and development of high performance composite materials and jointly promote the development of advanced composite materials technology in China.
Advanced composite materials have the characteristics of light weight, high strength, obvious advantages in strength, fatigue resistance and designability, and can be widely used in automotive, aerospace and other fields, with broad market prospects. The 13th Five-Year Plan of National Science and Technology Innovation put forward that carbon fibers and their composites should be regarded as a major project of science and technology innovation. Chen Baoshu, Chief Science and Technology Officer of Sinochem International, said: "The completion of the Joint Laboratory is another important milestone for Sinochem International to carry out scientific and technological innovation in the field of new materials. Advanced composite materials are the focus of research and development of high-tech strategic materials, which is in line with Sinochem's international strategic development direction. Sinochem International will take this opportunity to expand its cooperation with Shanghai Chemical Institute and build a mature platform for all-round cooperation in project selection, industrialization process and joint declaration of major projects. Zhai Jinguo, deputy general manager and vice president of Shanghai Chemical Academy, said that the two sides would jointly promote technology development, achievement transformation and industrial application in related fields such as carbon fibers and cured resins, jointly explore collaborative innovation mode of joint technical tackling between scientific research institutes and industrial groups, and jointly promote the industrialization and marketization of high performance composite technology and products at an early date.
At present, the joint laboratory has initiated the first research and development project of spray-free carbon fiber reinforced composites. The spray-free resin system has excellent spraying performance when applied to continuous fiber composites. Composite components can reach grade 0 paint adhesion without any mechanical treatment. It can replace traditional thermosetting resins such as polyester, epoxy resin and polyurethane for composite materials. This product will be first used in new energy vehicles, not only can reduce the body weight, but also can significantly reduce the application cost of composite materials, improve production efficiency.
