Sinopec Commissioned 200,000 Tons of CCUS Project in The Yangtze River Delta

ECHEMI 2022-01-04

On December 27, the coal-to-hydrogen tail gas capture project built by the East China Petroleum Bureau at the Nanhua Company was commissioned, marking the first CCUS demonstration project constructed by Sinopec in the Yangtze River Delta with an annual carbon dioxide recovery capacity of 200,000 tons.

All the carbon dioxide recovered by the project will be used for oilfield flooding to increase oil recovery. It is expected that in the next five years, 1 million tons of carbon dioxide will be injected into the ground and 330,000 tons of crude oil will be produced. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, the East China Petroleum Bureau and Nanhua Company will continue to vigorously promote the development of CCUS industrialization, accelerate CCUS technological innovation, and strive to build a million-ton-level CCUS demonstration project as soon as possible. At present, the East China Petroleum Bureau is planning to convert the Huangqiao Gas Field to a sealed storage gas storage to prepare for the realization of large-scale carbon dioxide storage.

Since the two companies cooperated in 2015, the project has been completed in three phases to its current scale. This time, the third phase is put into operation. The factory prefabrication model is used in the carbon capture link to further optimize the compression unit, refrigeration unit, and liquefaction unit of the carbon dioxide recovery and purification device. Refining unit process, the main equipment only needs to add two skid-mounted modules for pressurization and liquefaction. The purified carbon dioxide has a purity of over 99%, forming a standardized, skid-mounted, modular, intelligent, and unmanned carbon capture integrated package Technology.
