Maersk Purchases Green Methanol in China

Recently, the shipping giant Maersk announced that it has established a strategic partnership with CIMC Enric Holdings Co., Ltd. and Green Tech (Shanghai) Technology Development Co., Ltd. Provide fuel on behalf of large green container ships. The ships will be operational from 2024. According to the memorandum of cooperation, from 2024, CIMC Enric and Green Tech Bank are expected to provide Maersk with a total of 100,000 tons of green methanol in the first phase. The production capacity of the second phase depends on the development situation, and the annual output is expected to increase to 600,000 tons.

China has huge potential in the field of sustainable methanol production, and the signing of the MoU is an exciting first step.”

 

CIMC Enric is a leading enterprise in the field of clean energy key equipment, with core equipment manufacturing capabilities such as clean energy power generation, storage, transportation and application. Green Technology Bank focuses on promoting green technology and green finance development projects, and its green fuel production will rely entirely on domestic resources and technologies.

 

Maersk said that achieving decarbonization goals is a strategic priority for Maersk. As the world's leading shipping and logistics company, Maersk continues to accelerate the decarbonization process of its shipping business, and announced the order to build 12 large green methanol container ships. In addition, the company has developed corresponding decarbonization plans for aviation, terminals and landside transportation.
