Half of China's food products with excessive pesticide and veterinary drug residues

  Among the unqualified samples, half of them were detected with excessive pesticide and veterinary drug residues.

Among them, nine batches of pesticide residues were found to exceed the standard, namely: celery sold by Shandong Weifang Department Store Group Co Ltd Shouguang Leshan Jialejia Supermarket was found to be non-compliant with the national food safety standard for avermectin; cowpeas sold by Chen Zian of Qingdao Huangdao District Dazhuntou Agricultural Products Wholesale Market were found to be non-compliant with the national food safety standard for mefenoxam, thiamethoxam and thiamethoxam; ginger sold by Dezhou Decheng District Hongyu.

The ginger sold by the Fruit and Vegetable Department of Dezhou City Hong Yu was found to contain thiamethoxam, which did not comply with the national food safety standard; the ginger sold by Qingdao Sanmu Di Trading Co.

The bananas sold by Chuanfang Department in Donggang District, Rizhao City, were found to have imidacloprid, which did not comply with the national food safety standard; the common cabbage (rape) sold by Fengjia Town Supply and Marketing Vegetable Centre in Zhanhua District, Binzhou City, was found to have chlorpyrifos, which did not comply with the national food safety standard; the vegetables sold by Hongshuai Vegetable Wholesale Department in Wanda General Market, Lions Building Office, Yanggu County, were found to have methylaminoazoate, which did not comply with the national food safety standard.

The detection of methylamino abamectin benzoate on long bean curd did not comply with the National Standard for Food Safety.

  According to the National Food Safety Standard Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Food (GB 2763-2021), the maximum residue limit for abamectin in celery is 0.05mg/kg; the maximum residue limit for methylamino abamectin benzoate in legumes (except beans and soybeans) is 0.015mg/kg; imidacloprid.

The maximum residue limits in root vegetables (except carrots) were 0.5mg/kg and in bananas 0.05mg/kg; thiamethoxam in legumes 0.01mg/kg and in eggplant vegetables (except tomatoes) 0.05mg/kg and in root vegetables 0.2mg/kg.

The maximum residue limit for thiamethoxam in edible legumes (except beans) was 0.3mg/kg; the maximum residue limit for mefenoxam in cowpeas was 0.5mg/kg; the maximum residue limit for chlorothalonil in leeks was 0.2mg/kg; the maximum residue limit for chlorpyrifos in leafy vegetables (except celery) was 0.02mg/kg. kg.

  Another batch of veterinary drug residues were detected in excess of the limit: Diazepam was detected in carp sold by Aolong Aquatic Products Wholesale Department in the city of Zaozhuang, which did not comply with the national food safety standards.

  Diazepam is a benzodiazepine sedative-hypnotic drug, clinically used for anxiolytic, sedative-hypnotic, anticonvulsant, antiepileptic and central muscle relaxation effects. The National Food Safety Standard Maximum Residue Limits for Veterinary Drugs in Food (GB 31650-2019) states that diazepam is a veterinary drug permitted for therapeutic use but not to be detected in animal food.

The detection of diazepam in freshwater fish may be due to its illegal use in order to reduce the perception of fresh live fish to the outside world and to ensure that it remains fresh after transportation.
