The situation of national railway freight transport is getting better and better. In the first half of 2019, 1.636 billion tons of goods were delivered by national railways, an increase of 5.62% over the same period last year. Among them, 283 million tons were completed in June, an increase of 8.7% over the same period last year. Sixteen of the 18 Railway Bureau Group Companies in China achieved year-on-year growth, of which China Railway Nanning Bureau Group Co., Ltd. increased the most, reaching 25.2%. Looking from the year-round plan, in 2019, the national railway cargo delivery volume of China Railway Group will reach 3.368 billion tons, an increase of 5.58% over the previous year, while in the first half of 2019, the cargo delivery volume has completed 48.57% of the year-round plan. "Although in absolute terms, it has not reached half of the annual task, at present, the freight growth rate continues to rise and has exceeded the planned annual growth rate. Overfulfilling the year-round target is not empty talk. Railway freight volume continued to increase in the first half of 2019. In the first quarter, the first April and the first May, the national railway freight volume grew by 2.9%, 4.51% and 4.97% year-on-year, respectively. However, the production and operation data of Daqin Railway (7.950, 0.01, 0.13%) as a barometer of Heavy-haul coal transportation in China's railways in the first half of the year are not optimistic. The Daqin Railway (601006.SH) data briefing shows that in June 2019, the freight transportation volume of Daqin Railway was 35.82 million tons, a decrease of 7.78% compared with the same period last year. In the first half of 2019, the total volume of goods transported by Daqin Line was 218 million tons, a decrease of 3.16% compared with the same period last year.
People from the State Railway Group told China Business Daily that in 2018, the freight volume of the State Railway Group exceeded the target of 200 million tons of freight volume by relying on the main "six-line and six-area" in 2019, and the "six-line and six-area" in 2019 is still the key to the freight volume. He told reporters: "The capacity of the six-line and six-area corridor is nearly saturated. Without increasing the capacity of the corridor, how to achieve breakthroughs is a serious problem faced by the Railway Group, with unprecedented difficulty." The so-called "six-line and six-area" refers to the six-line areas of Daqin, Zhangtang, Wari, Houyue, Xihe and Lanzhou-Chongqing, and the six regions of Shanxi, Shaanxi, Mongolia, Xinjiang, coastal areas and along the Yangtze River.
In addition to Daqin Line, Tanghu Line and Wari Line are experimenting with 12,000 tons of Heavy-haul trains to achieve one-stop direct transport, i.e., zero-change trains for 10,000 tons of trains at loading and unloading points, while improving the traction quality of the main northwest-southwest passage to 4500 tons; the Hou-yue Line is being towed by two locomotives. It is also necessary to achieve the goal of "re-entry and re-entry". In addition, China Railway Group plans to use super-long and heavy-haul trains in the Mengxi-Huazhong Railway Coal Transport Corridor Project (hereinafter referred to as "Menghua Railway"), which will be opened in October 2019. It is currently working on the selection of locomotives and rolling stock, the formulation of operation modes and the construction of facilities and equipment.
The person also told reporters that at present, the application assessment of C96 special heavy haul train with the largest load in China (the maximum load of each vehicle is 96 tons) has entered the most critical stage. This year, small batches of this type of vehicle will be promoted in key sections, and the freight capacity of heavy haul lines will continue to be improved, eventually forming Daqin. Four new patterns of coal transportation corridors: Tanghu, Wari and Menghua.
"According to the plan of the State Railway Group, Tanghu, Wari and the Menghua Railway, which will be opened soon, are sharing the long-term transport pressure of the Daqin Railway, and the reduction of the transport volume of the Daqin Railway is inevitable." He said.
In addition, in May 2019, Shanxi Province promulgated the Implementation Plan for Promoting the Adjustment of Transport Structure in Shanxi Province (hereinafter referred to as the Plan). The Action Plan for Incremental Freight Transport from 2018 to 2020 issued by the former China Railway Corporation in July 2018 shows that by 2020, the national railway freight volume will increase by 30% compared with 2017, that is to say, it will reach 4.796 billion tons. Among them, coal transportation has become the most important, accounting for nearly 60% of the total freight volume, reaching 2.81 billion tons, accounting for 75% of the national coal output, and the proportion of bulk freight volume in the total railway freight volume has remained stable at more than 90%.
In 2018, China's railway freight volume continued to grow at a high speed, with 4.022 billion tons of freight delivered, an increase of 334 million tons over the same period of last year, of which 3.19 billion tons were completed by national railways, an increase of nearly 10% over the same period of last year. In terms of passenger transport, in the first half of 2019, 1.736 billion passengers were sent by national railways, an increase of 9.11% over the same period last year, of which 300 million passengers were sent in June, an increase of 9.6% over the same period last year. In June, 192 million EMUs were sent, an increase of 15.8% over the same period last year. Sixteen of the 18 Railway Administration Group Companies in China achieved year-on-year growth, of which China Railway Kunming Administration Group Co., Ltd. increased 29.7%.
