Leading Green Development Wanhua Chemical was honored as a model corporate citizen in China's petroleum and chemical industry in 2021

Recently, China Chemical News released the 2021 China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Corporate Citizenship Model List, aiming to establish industry role models in the industry who are socially responsible and advocate more enterprises to join the path of sustainable development. Wanhua Chemical was listed as a model corporate citizen in China's petroleum and chemical industry in 2021.

In 2021, Wanhua Chemical will focus on six areas: industrial innovation, environmental protection, health and safety, energy efficiency, sustainable procurement, and employees and society, and uphold the concept of "Chemistry for a better life".

Deeply committed to green development and carbon neutrality

Under the guidance of the "Double Carbon" target, Wanhua Chemical is accelerating its green and low-carbon development.

With technological innovation as the driving force, Wanhua Chemical is helping the transportation, express packaging, 5G communication, construction and household, sports and leisure, and green energy industries to achieve green transformation and upgrading through four industrial clusters: polyurethane, petrochemicals, fine chemicals, and new materials.

With clean energy as the source of carbon reduction, Wanhua Chemical has invested in a series of new energy projects such as 93MW decentralized wind power, 600MW fishery photovoltaic and 140MW agricultural photovoltaic power plants, which can reduce carbon dioxide by more than 1 million tons per year.

Taking the green chemical process as the implementation path, Wanhua Chemical has continuously improved the energy saving and emission reduction level of the park through its self-developed HCl recycling technology, steam usage optimization, flare emission gas recovery and compressor operation optimization projects, which will achieve a total CO2 emission reduction of 172,000 tons in 2020. Wanhua Chemical will also build a comprehensive intelligent energy project with Haihai New Energy.

Through various innovative technologies, the waste heat from Wanhua Chemical Yantai Industrial Park will be recycled and reused, which can provide a clean heat source for 110 million square meters of urban heating in Yantai, saving about 2.6 million tons of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide by 6.7 million tons, and saving more than 20 million cubic meters of water each year.

In addition, Wanhua Chemical has joined hands with a number of partners to continuously optimize the supply chain system with initiatives such as sharing pallets and steel drum recycling solutions, driving energy saving and emission reduction in the entire upstream and downstream industry chains.

Social Responsibility for a Better Tomorrow

While developing steadily, Wanhua Chemical has never forgotten its social responsibility. After the outbreak of the epidemic, Wanhua Chemical took the initiative to contact public welfare organisations in Hubei and Yantai and donated tens of millions of dollars for the treatment of the epidemic and the purchase of medical equipment. In addition, Wanhua Chemical also joined hands with upstream and downstream enterprises to help build medical projects and manufacture disinfection materials in the infected areas by donating chemical raw materials.

Wanhua Chemical actively organised "Magic Lab" and "Doctor's Lecture Hall", visiting more than 10 cities such as Yantai, Ningbo and Sichuan to teach children about chemistry, cultivate scientific thinking and inspire innovation in a fun and entertaining way.

In addition to providing children with "spiritual food", Wanhua Chemical also works closely with local governments and public welfare organizations to carry out social welfare projects such as precise poverty alleviation to further improve the living and educational environment of children and help them grow up.
