As one of the three leading industries in Liuhe High-tech Zone, the new material industry is a basic and leading hard-core science and technology in the national economy. Among them, new chemical materials are not only strategic emerging industries, but also an important basis for developing strategic emerging industries and promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries: the development of electronic information, aerospace, rail transit, high-end equipment manufacturing and other fields. Neither of them can be separated from the support and guarantee of new chemical materials. In this paper, the concept, classification, layout and market scale of new chemical materials are summarized. Taking engineering plastics and special engineering plastics as examples, the current situation and development opportunities of the industrial chain are analyzed, and some suggestions on how to upgrade the new chemical materials industry are put forward.

Chemical New Materials cover a wide range of areas, usually defined as new chemical materials with superiority or special functions that traditional chemical materials do not have. Compared with traditional materials, new chemical materials have the characteristics of light weight, excellent performance, strong functionality and high technical content.

According to the current industrial division in China, new chemical materials refer to advanced polymer materials, including five categories: high-performance resins, special rubber, high-performance fibers, functional membrane materials and electronic chemicals. Among them, high-performance resins are divided into five areas: engineering plastics, high-end polyolefin plastics, polyurethane materials, fluorosilicone resins, and other high-performance materials. It also includes other cutting-edge new materials, such as graphene, 3D printing materials, nanomaterials and so on.
