Coal prices will remain firm this week

ECHEMI 2020-02-06

This week, the positive and negative factors work together, and it is expected that the coastal coal market will continue to maintain the trend of low supply and demand; this week, the Bohai port power coal market as a whole is mainly stable, with limited space for port coal prices to rise and fall. In terms of production area, the Spring Festival holiday is approaching, and the number of coal mines in the main production areas of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Mongolia is increasing. Most of the coal mines are mainly stable, with little change in price. From the perspective of downstream demand, near the Spring Festival, the daily consumption of coastal power plants shows a significant decline.

Among them, the daily consumption of No.1 electrified power plant in Jiangsu and Zhejiang has dropped significantly, and the daily consumption of zheneng power plant has dropped to 74000 tons, equivalent to half of the normal level; while the industrial power load of power plants in Jiangsu has also dropped, and the daily consumption has dropped. The daily consumption and demand of the downstream power plants have declined. Many downstream power plants are no longer in a hurry to replenish the coal storage in large quantities. Instead, they keep passive transportation of the coal in the northern port and consume more of their own inventory. Users intend to use the long Spring Festival holiday and the decline of the daily consumption of the power plants to realize passive replenishment and increase the coal storage quantity of the power plants. In addition, it is expected that the customs clearance of imported coal will be gradually enhanced, and the quota of imported coal in the new year will be supplemented; and the imported coal that is subject to quota restrictions and waiting to enter the domestic market will also be centrally cleared to the shore.

At present, some ports in the South have resumed import and started to supplement coal resources for downstream users. In terms of ports, as of yesterday, the total coal storage capacity of the top ten coal transportation ports around the Bohai Sea was 19.29 million tons, a decrease of 270000 tons compared with a week ago; in the past week, the port inventory has not changed much. At present, there are 4.45 million tons of coal in Qinhuangdao port, and the coal transfer in and out of Qinhuangdao port is in balance. The amount of coal in Qinhuangdao port has been kept below 5 million tons for 13 days. In this week, the clearing up of stock by traders is coming to an end, no new orders are received temporarily, and the coal in the railway transportation market is greatly reduced; some distribution enterprises begin to enter the holiday mode, which leads to the decrease of the port's adjustable resources, mainly the long-term cooperative coal. In the northern port, tongxinyou, Qingyou and other high-quality low sulfur coal continue to be out of stock, which makes the port coal price remain strong. According to the comprehensive analysis, despite the expectation of import coal supplement and daily consumption decrease, the procurement demand is obviously reduced, and the port transaction is gradually weakened; but the high-quality and low sulfur coal in the port is also in a tense state. It is expected that this week, the port coal price rise and fall space is limited, is expected to maintain stable shock operation.
