Shanghai: Building the future materialsindustry cluster, focusing on three major areas

2022-10-21

ShanghaiMunicipal People's Government recently released the "Shanghai to build thefuture industry innovation highland development and growth of future industryclusters action plan", all-out efforts to build a world influential futureindustry innovation highland.

By 2030, Shanghai will be in the future of health, future intelligence, future energy, future space, future materials and other fields emerge a numberof hard-core results with world influence, innovative enterprises and leadingtalents, the future industrial output value will reach about 500 billion yuan.By 2035, a number of future industry clusters leading the world will be formed.

To achieve these goals, the Action Plan recommends planning futureindustries and creating five future industry clusters, including health, intelligence, energy, space and materials.

In Pudong, Baoshan, Jinshan and other areas, Shanghai will enhance theindustrial transformation carrying capacity to create future material industryclusters, focusing on three major areas: high-end membrane materials,high-performance composite materials, and non-silicon based core materials.

High-end membrane materials. Improve the basic structure design ofmembrane materials and the ability of raw material autonomy, break throughhigh-end separation membrane technology, research and development to overcomeraw materials and film-forming technology for fuel cell proton exchangemembrane and special resin, hollow fiber membrane for in vitro membrane lungoxygenator, liquid crystal polymer membrane for 5G/6G antenna, high thermalconductivity graphene film, etc. We will continue to promote the technicaliteration and industrialization of materials such as film materials forhigh-end lithium batteries, optical films for new displays, and release filmsfor integrated circuits.

High-performance composite materials. Strengthen the high-performancefiber industry chain, layout extreme environmental protection fiber, biomedicalfiber, artificial intelligence fiber and other directions. Strengthen theresearch and development of polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber, support theimprovement of viscose based carbon fiber, asphalt-based carbon fiber andaramid fiber preparation technology and process, ultra-high molecular weightpolyolefin fiber, overcome the key catalytic materials, breakthrough in themass production technology of high-performance carbon fiber and compositematerials. Research and development of energy conversion and storage fibers,color-changing fibers, shape memory fibers and actuating fibers and otherapplication technologies. We will continue to deal with technologies such ashigh-temperature alloys for aero-engines, metal matrix composites and high-endmedical degradable alloys.

Non-silicon based core materials. Promote the development of widebandgap semiconductor compounds such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride, continue to improve the technical capability and mass production scale of widebandgap semiconductor compound crystal preparation, actively layout widebandgap semiconductor wafer manufacturing process technology, enhance widebandgap semiconductor chip product design capability, and expand productapplication fields. Actively promote graphene, carbon nanotubes and othercarbon-based chip materials, semiconductor two-dimensional materials and otherfuture non-silicon based semiconductor materials technology research andlayout.

The Action Plan also recommends the construction of future energyindustry clusters in Shanghai Pudong, Minhang, Jiading and other areas.Focusing on advanced nuclear energy, new energy storage and other fields.
