On June 14, 1994, a working conference on the progress of menopause research in the 1990s was held in Geneva. It was proposed to abandon menopause and recommend the use of perimenopause and menopausal transition periods. The regulations are as follows: ① Premenopause (pre-menopausal period): refers to the period of ovarian activity, including puberty to menopause. ② Menopause (menopausal): refers to the last menstruation in a woman's life, which is often determined in retrospect. ③ Postmenopause (postmenopausal period): refers to the entire period from menopause to the end of life. ④ Menopausal transitional period (menopausal transitional period): refers to the period before menopause, that is, a transition period from reproductive age to menopause, including the earliest appearance of menopausal trends in clinical or blood hormone levels (i.e., a sign of ovarian function decline) until the last menstruation. ⑤ Peri-menopausal period: refers to the period before and after menopause, including the period from when clinical or blood hormone levels begin to show signs of menopause (i.e., signs of ovarian function decline), to one year after the last menstrual period, i.e., the menopausal transition period plus one year after menopause.
