Hookworm disease
Hookworm disease (ancylostomiasis) is a disease caused by Ancylostoma duodenale or Ancylostoma americanum (collectively referred to as hookworms) parasitizing the small intestine. When the human body comes into contact with the infectious larvae (filariform larvae) of hookworms, the larvae drill into the skin and cause infection. Clinically, the main manifestations are anemia, malnutrition, and gastrointestinal dysfunction. In severe cases, it can cause developmental disorders and heart failure.
