Ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament
Clinically, the number of patients with ossification of the anterior longitudinal ligament is much higher than that of the posterior longitudinal ligament. In the lateral X-ray of the cervical spine of patients over 50 years old, about 80% can show this feature, of which about half occur in the lumbar spine, while the incidence rate is the lowest in the thoracic spine. However, only 0.1% to 0.3% of patients actually develop symptoms (mostly neck discomfort, some may have esophageal compression signs, and those that occur in the thoracic and lumbar spine rarely cause symptoms), so it is generally not taken seriously by people.
