Acute adnexitis
Acute adnexitis is inflammation of both salpingitis and oophoritis. Salpingitis is the most common in acute pelvic inflammatory disease. The ovaries are adjacent to the fallopian tubes, and when inflammation of the fallopian tubes continues to spread, it often causes oophoritis. Ovarian inflammation rarely occurs alone, and only the mumps virus has a special affinity for the ovaries, which can spread through the blood and infect the ovaries alone.
