Secondary hyperparathyroidism
Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) refers to a chronic compensatory clinical syndrome in which the parathyroid glands are stimulated by hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia or hyperphosphatemia for a long time to secrete excessive PTH to increase blood calcium and magnesium and reduce blood phosphorus in chronic renal insufficiency, intestinal malabsorption syndrome, Fanconi syndrome, renal tubular acidosis, vitamin D deficiency or resistance, pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc. It is accompanied by varying degrees of parathyroid hyperplasia, but it is not caused by parathyroid disease itself.
