Liver fibrosis refers to the excessive deposition of fibrous connective tissue in the liver, which is the result of an imbalance between fibrosis and fibrolysis. Fibrosis is a repair response of the body to damage. It is now believed that liver fibrosis can still be reversed to normal, but cirrhosis cannot.
