Mixed connective tissue disease in children
Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) in children is a syndrome characterized by clinical manifestations of connective tissue diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyositis and systemic sclerosis, but does not meet the diagnosis of any of these diseases, and has high titer anti-ribonucleoprotein (RNP) antibodies in the serum. This disease was first reported and named by Sharp et al. in 1972 as an independent syndrome. It is a representative disease of type II overlapping collagen disease. There are different opinions on whether MCTD is an independent disease.
