Posterior lateral tuberosity fracture of the talus
This fracture is the result of a plantar flexion injury, with pressure from the posterior tibial lip onto the talar tuberosity. Fractures at this cartilaginous junction often occur as a result of a sudden jump on the metatarsal bones or toes, as in basketball or tennis. Similarly, it can occur when stepping backwards on an empty chair. Ballet dancers are more susceptible to this injury because of the elongated lateral tuberosity of the talus (Stieda's process).
