Aortic regurgitation
Aortic insufficiency can be caused by lesions of the aortic valve, valve ring, and ascending aorta. It is more common in male patients, accounting for about 75%; female patients are often accompanied by mitral valve lesions. Among chronic patients, the most common cause is damage to the valve leaflets caused by rheumatic fever, accounting for two-thirds of all patients with aortic insufficiency.
