Gonorrheal arthritis is a special type of acute arthritis, which is caused by sexually transmitted gonococci. In foreign countries, gonococcal arthritis is the most common joint infection. Boston University Medical Center reported that the number of patients with gonococcal arthritis is twice that of other suppurative arthritis patients. There is also an increasing trend of such patients in China. When sexually transmitted gonorrhea develops acutely or subacutely 2 to 3 weeks after onset, gonococci can reach the joints through bloodstream infection and cause joint disease. The knee joint has the highest incidence rate, followed by the foot, hand joints and elbow joints, and most of them are single joint diseases.
