Kwassana Forest Disease
Kwasana Forest Disease was first recognized in 1957 when a deadly epizootic disease was found among wild monkeys in the Himaugo region of Karnataka, India. The disease was linked to an outbreak among villagers living on the edge of the forest. Hence the name "monkey disease". Later, the virus was isolated in Kwasana and named after it. The disease causes sudden onset of fever, headache and severe muscle pain, and some patients may suffer from prostration.
