Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an autoimmune disease mediated by cell-mediated immunity, characterized by acute inflammation and demyelination of the central nervous system. This disease usually occurs after acute infection or vaccination, so it is also called post-infectious encephalomyelitis or post-vaccine encephalomyelitis. If there is no history of vaccination or infection before the disease, it can be collectively referred to as acute disseminated encephalomyelitis.
