Volvulus
Intestinal volvulus is a closed loop intestinal obstruction caused by a segment of intestinal loop rotating along the long axis of the mesentery or two segments of intestinal loops twisting into a knot. The former is more common. It is often because the intestinal loop and its mesentery are too long. After the intestinal volvulus, the intestinal cavity is compressed and narrowed, causing obstruction, twisting and compression that affect the blood supply of the intestine. Therefore, the intestinal obstruction caused by intestinal volvulus is mostly strangulation.
