Hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) is a syndrome caused by thickening of soft tissue around bones and extensive periosteal new bone formation. The main clinical manifestations are clubbing of fingers (toes), extensive periosteal new bone formation, joint pain, and effusion.
