Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a hypoxemia caused by pulmonary vasodilation and abnormal arterial oxygenation due to various acute and chronic liver diseases. In essence, it is a triad of primary liver disease, pulmonary vasodilation, and insufficient arterial oxygenation.
