Phlegm syncope
There are many patients with chronic bronchitis among the elderly. In the cold winter, patients often suffer from temporary loss of consciousness and fall due to severe coughing. Because it occurs when coughing or expectorating, Chinese medicine calls it "phlegm syncope". Phlegm syncope is one of the syncope syndromes. It refers to the symptoms of cold limbs and even fainting caused by excessive phlegm and blocked qi. See "Dan Xi's Heart Method·Jue". "Yi Lin Sheng Mo·Jue": "There are people with phlegm syncope, phlegm and qi run wildly upwards, coughing continuously, shortness of breath and heavy panting, sitting and not lying down, so that the upper part is full and the lower part is empty, causing syncope, which is called phlegm syncope. It is advisable to use Erchen Decoction with Magnolia officinalis, Atractylodes macrocephala, Scutellaria baicalensis, and Crataegus pinnatifida to reduce phlegm and qi and return it to the spleen's meridians, so that the feet can be warmed and syncope will not occur."
