Diabetes in children is mostly type 1 or insulin-requiring diabetes. It is an endocrine metabolic disease caused by insufficient insulin secretion. It is mainly characterized by carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism disorders, causing high blood sugar and glycosuria. Children are prone to ketoacidosis, and often have vascular lesions in the later stages, and the eyes and kidneys are affected. Diabetes in childhood refers to diabetes that occurs before the age of 15. According to different causes, diabetes in childhood can be divided into: insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), malnutrition diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance and other types of diabetes. It is more common in children aged 5 to 6 and 10 to 14 years old, and is rare in children under 5 years old. At present, the incidence of type 2 diabetes in children is no longer increasing, insulin sensitivity is reduced, and the level of insulin secretion is higher than that of normal people.
