Phosphatidylcholine-cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency
In 1967 and 1968, Gjone and Norum first reported a familial disease characterized by proteinuria, anemia, hyperlipidemia and corneal opacities. Further studies found that patients had increased plasma cholesterol and triglyceride levels, decreased lysophosphatidylcholine levels, and increased free cholesterol phosphatidylcholine levels. The kidneys were often affected, and renal failure was the cause of death from this disease.
